Beowulf

If you haven't read it, or if it has been a while, I highly recommend it. I am currently teaching it in my Heroes and Villains course, while we discuss the epic hero, and I must say, I appreciate this text more every time I read it. It has been a few years, and I must say, I wasn't necessarily looking forward to it, but I felt it was a great way to start this course. It was like a new reading experience. One reason, I am sure, is because I came to it with a few more years of knowledge, scholarship, and experience. There is so much more to Beowulf than killing of a monster. Go ahead, grab Seamus Heaney's translation, sit down, and prepare to be entertained and enlightened.
