Car Trouble 2: The Long Walk Home
I took the car into the shop this morning around 8:00 and ran-walked home (1.4 miles). The mechanic said it wouldn't be done until "sometime this evening." Well, that presented a major problem for us. we had planned a final grocery run to Lexington (six miles west of us) in preparation for Thanksgiving Dinner tomorrow. The original plan was to go yesterday, but since the car started to overheat after just a few minutes of driving, that was not possible. There is a Food Lion in town, but it is 2.8 miles from our home. Well, we packed the boys into the stroller and hauled ourselves there, found nearly everything we needed, stuffed it in the back of the stroller, and hauled ourselves back home. Wow! Just after 3:30, we got the call from the garage to go pick up the car, so I ran-walked back to get it, and found out that the problem was an even easier fix, resulting in a repair that was 1/3 less in cost than we had anticipated. Right on! Now that we have everything for dinner tomorrow and Christmas decorations (thanks to Leah Marie's quick run to the store tonight) and have begun prep for tomorrow's feast, we can relax and get some sleep, which better be world class and rejuvenating. After walking over eight miles today, our legs need some love before the Gobble Wobble 5k in Lexington tomorrow morning. Mercy, mercy, mercy, me.
